Music News |

 |
While Kimberly Stewart continues voice lessons in hopes of someday launching a music career, her good friend Paris Hilton is beating her to the punch in covering one of her father's tunes.
On her as-yet-untitled debut album, Hilton will include a rendition of Rod Stewart's disco hit "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?"
Hilton revealed the song selection to Hong Kong magazine Prestige, noting that her album will mix reggae, pop and hip-hop elements.
"The whole album has so much different music on it," said Hilton, who shot her first video, for the reggae-oriented "Stars Are Blind," on a Malibu, California, beach last week. "I like all music. It's not like I only like pop or only rock. I want to have something for everybody." |

DMX Considers Changing His Name For Spiritual Reasons |
Music News |
 |
 |
Since
DMX barreled into the rap scene in 1998, his fans and friends have affectionately called him "the Dog." But pretty soon, that might be his official name.
As he explores spirituality, X said, he's thinking about switching his stage moniker but wants to keep it simple.
"I think I'm going to have to do that soon for spiritual reasons," X told MTV Europe about shedding the Dark Man X name. X also said he was thinking about the name Dog, but he wasn't sure.
"It's just the whole Dark Man thing," he continued. "Because if you look at it, from a spiritual point of view, the Bible teaches us that we can speak things into existence. ... And Dark Man, you know, it may not be the best name for me."
X's album Year of the Dog, Again is slated for the end of August (see "DMX Signs With Columbia, Will Release Long-Delayed LP This Spring"). His new single, "Lord Give Me a Sign," is produced by Scott Storch and addresses his quest to get closer to God. |

Kanye West accused of stealing music - Along with rapper Ludacris |
Music News |
 |
 |
Kanye West has been accused of plagiarism during a hearing at the New York District Court in Manhattan.
IOF, a New Jersey group, have said that West, along with rapper Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges, stole the lyrics and beats from their song 'Straight Like That', to create the 2003 hit 'Stand Up'.
The words "like that" are at issue in the case, and appear more than 80 times in both songs.
In the IOF track, the phrase "straight like that" is used, while in the Ludacris tune, the words "just like that" appear.
Both Ludacris and West - who co-produced 'Stand Up' - are expected to testify at the trial, BBC News reports.
Christine Lepera, lawyer for the defendants, has already criticised the case, telling the court: "There are scores of songs out there with the words 'like that' with that type of rhythm. None of you can monopolise certain expressions." |

Mariah Carey Plans Summer Arena Tour |
Music News |
 |
 |
Multi-platinum diva hits the road for the first time since 2003.
Encouraged by the success of
The Emancipation of Mimi,
Mariah Carey has decided to take her emancipated self out on the road to visit American audiences for the first time since 2003, when her career seemed to be on the ropes. Mariah has worked through some issues in the meantime, and she's learned a few lessons, like needing to give herself some vocal rest in between shows. As a result, the smaller venues have been scratched this time around.
Choosing the right time of year was an easier decision. "I've always associated going to a show with summer, and the sense of freedom that evokes," Carey said. "Summertime is the best time for tours, I think. Not that I'm the queen of touring."
