 |
50 Cent is scheduled to headline the Ignition concert at the Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, Jamaica on July 21.
The roster will also include Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo, Olivia, Mobb Deep and dance hall artists like Lady Saw, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Elephant Man, Baby Cham, Mr. Vegas and Capleton, among others.
"Red Stripe is responsible for bringing 50 Cent to Jamaica for Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest," Carlo Redwood, Red Stripe's Group Marketing Manager, said in a statement. "Our decision to push for his inclusion in the line up this year grew out of our commitment to make this reggae show, the world's greatest and Jamaica's best. We thought that including the rap star that many admire and love, would only add to the explosive talent at this year's showing. |

'80s Stars Strip Down On the Sunset Strip |
Music News |
 |

This week, Sidewinder Records released '80s Hit Stripped, a compilation featuring such new wave luminaries as Rick Springfield, Billy Idol, and Howard Jones acoustically reinterpreting their classic hits. And last night at Hollywood's Viper Room on the Sunset Strip, some of the artists on the album celebrated the CD's release with a special, one-time-only show.
Introduced by original MTV veejay Alan Hunter and hosted by witty emcee Thomas Dolby (whose acoustic revision of "She Blinded Me With Science" appears on the CD), the show featured Peter Byrne of Naked Eyes performing folky renditions of "Promises, Promises" and "Always Something There to Remind Me"; Martha Davis and the Motels wowing the crowd with beautiful versions of "Suddenly Last Summer" and "Only The Lonely"; Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go's, accompanied by guitarist Brian Bell of Weezer, charmingly cooing her way through "Our Lips Are Sealed"; and Tommy Tutone acoustically rocking out on "867-5309/Jenny" (and apologizing for "ruining anyone's lives" by writing a song with a real-life, and consequently much-crank-called, phone number). |

Prince Gettin' Webby with It |

Prince's Crystal Ball had an award in its future.
The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday that the Purple Rain icon will receive a Special Achievement honor at the 10th Annual Webby Awards for his efforts to distribute music and connect with fans via the Internet.
Long before iTunes and several years before the gloves came off between record companies and file-sharing sites like Napster, Prince became the first major artist to release an entire album--1997's Crystal Ball--exclusively on the Web. The singer also offers multiple CDs-worth of recordings on his graphically savvy Website that aren't available (legally) anywhere else.
"Besides being a musical genius, Prince is a visionary who recognized early on that the web would completely change how we experience music," Webby Awards founder Tiffany Shlain said in a statement. "For more than a decade, he has tapped the power of the Web to forge a deeper connection with his fans and push the boundaries of technology and art." |
