One of the UK's most prestigious songwriting award ceremonies, the Ivor Novello Awards, took place in London last night and saw some of the UK's brightest- and most notorious-stars taking home the awards.
Unsurprisingly, the hard-living soul songstress Amy Winehouse took home the prize for best contemporary song for her breakaway hit "Rehab." The song's success is also a sign that cathartic songwriting over bad break-ups sometimes works. Winehouse married her former ex-boyfriend and inspiration for the song, Blake Fielder-Civil, last week.
Other winners included rock phenoms Arctic Monkeys for their album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, Madonna for "Sorry," Elton John for Scissor Sisters' international dancefloor romp "I Don't Feel LIke Dancin'," and Peter Gabriel, who received a Lifetime Achievement award.
