As "Party Like A Rock Star" floods the charts.Since beginning in the Atlanta underground earlier this year, "Party Like A Rock" star has made it to the top of several Billboard charts. Though the trio (consisting of Sheed, Fat and Meany) is content with the success of their lead single, the ATLiens feel their message is getting misinterpreted. "We're not using nothing. We're just promoting to live free, to party. If you look at their [rock stars'] parties, the way they live, the way they move, it's almost like they don't care about what whoever feel," Sheed told: "We feel like that, but we're not trying to be exactly like them, we just like their lifestyle...like a religion almost. It's a lifestyle. We make a different kind of music, we don't believe in a lot of things they believe in, but we do believe in one thing, that's that partying. And we're bringing that." With an album entitled Rockstar Mentality and heavily rock-influenced production, Shop Boyz' rock chops is sure to be tested. While they admit to have limited knowledge on the genre, they assert that their rock/rap fusion is no gimmick. "We're not saying that we're rock stars. We're not saying that we know anything," Fat explained. "People look at the word rock star and say, 'ok, they're trying to be rock stars.' The key word is 'like,' party like a rock star." "We know nothing about the rock star movement," Sheed added. "It's like somebody that knows nothing about hip-hop in a rap saying, 'I'm all hip-hop.' That wouldn't be fair to the people who've been doing it." Shop Boyz' Rockstar Mentality is scheduled to hit stores on June 19 via Universal Records. |
