A law enforcement source connected to R. Kelly's child pornography case recently revealed to The Chicago Sun Times that the infamous crooner won't be going to trail until spring 2008. The trial, which was supposed to kick off on September 17, was postponed by Judge Vincent Michael Gaughan on Tuesday (September 4) because the lead prosecutor in the case had given birth and was unable to proceed because of the doctors orders. According to the Sun Times source, Kelly's trial will take place after the trial of accused Brown's Chicken killer James Degorski. Gaughan will be presiding over Degorski's trial which begins in February 2008. Other sources claim the trial was delayed due to lawyers' disputing over the expert witnesses the prosecutors want to call to the stand. Lawyers for both sides declined to comment on the latest delay, citing a gag order in the case. Gaughan will reportedly announce a new trial date for Kelly on Sept 10. Kelly's trial has been delayed numerous times due to various setbacks including Kelly's appendix surgery last February, and last summer when Judge Gaughan broke his back. Kelly faces 14 counts of child pornography involving a videotape documenting sexual relations with a teenage girl. Prosecutors have said the victim could be as young as 13. If convicted, Kelly faces up to 15 years in prison. The Chicago bred crooner has pleaded not guilty to the charges. |
