While details are still sketchy at the moment, Jessica Simpson has confirmed she is working on a country album for the Nashville division of Columbia. The pop star is down in Tennessee working on tracks as we speak, but wouldn't reveal any specific songwriting partners in an interview with Billboard.
"Writing is a release for me," she said. "That's not to say I wouldn't record a song that I didn't write. It's just that it has been a while since I have opened the book."
Simpson's last LP was 2006's A Public Affair, which aired her side of a very public breakup with ex-husband Nick Lachey. (Simpson filed for divorce on December 16, 2005, citing "irreconcilable differences.")
As for why Simpson decided to explore her twang-y side, she explained, "I am a country girl. I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to make a country album, but I wanted to wait until the time was right."
