Iconic hip-hop producer Dr. Dre has finally given his long-awaited Detox album some life by speaking on its possible release date and the reason behind its nine year delay.
In an in-depth discussion with USA Today, the hitmaker revealed his own anticipation for his third solo release and confidence in its overall appeal to fans. He also hopes to have it come out before 2009.
“I’m just now—over the last couple of months—starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it,” Dre said. “In a perfect world, I’m shooting for a November or December release.”
Despite having to follow-up to his critically acclaimed albums The Chronic and The Chronic 2001, Dre confessed to never planning on making instant classics, but allowing the music to speak for itself.
“I’ve never set out to do that,” he said. “I just make the music feel the way I want it to feel and I don’t put it out until I’m totally happy with it. Then it does what it does.”
While details are still scarce on what the album will have to offer, the Aftermath head promised “an entirely new thing going with the drums that’s incredible” along with guest appearances from hip-hop heavy weights Nas, Jay-Z, and Lil’ Wayne.
After Detox drops, Dre plans to do the regular promo before finally retiring to the studio to focus solely on producing. “I’m going to put this record out, promote it, tour and then become a hermit,” he revealed.
“I’m going to stay in the studio and produce.”
