Desdemona Plays Pop, the best 80s night in London kicks off their new residency at the recently refurbished 02 Academy, Islington with a very special themed night honouring Michael Jackson.
A night celebrating the music, dance and fashion of the world’s ultimate pop icon.
The past 12 months has seen DJs Ruth & Ed take Desdemona Plays Pop from a backstreet pub in North London to launching their residency at the 02 Academy, Islington.
Along the way they have opened for the likes of Belinda Carlisle, Curiosity Killed the Cat and Kid Cerole. In January they headlined 3 sold out sets at Somerset House and they launch their new residency at the 02 Islington on Friday 24th July.
The secret to their success lies in the 3 golden rules of Desdemona Plays Pop:
1 – No remixes. Ruth & Ed play the songs you remember as you remember them, they might be mixing on CDs, but the tunes are a tribute to the days of 7' vinyl.
2- No irony. Enjoying classic 80s & 90s pop shouldn’t be a guilty pleasure, and if you come along to poke fun at 'Footloose' then you’re in the wrong place.
3- No attitude. Ruth & Ed are part of a dying breed of DJs that are happy to take requests. Never too cool to give the people what they want.
The King of Pop tribute night takes place at the 02 Academy, Islington on July 24th. 10:30pm – 3am.
