 The singer recorded 'Rated R’ a few months after being assaulted by then-boyfriend Chris Brown in February and has revealed the recording studio became a haven for her as she tried to get over the violent attack.
She said: "I hid out for a while, but that just drove me crazy. I got cabin fever. I was ready to make music again. It was a hard time, but I found peace in the studio."
The 'Russian Roulette’ singer deliberately chose to collaborate with people she had worked with before, including Justin Timberlake and Ne-Yo, to help her get over the ordeal.
She explained to the USA Today newspaper: "I wanted something grimy. It was important to have familiar people in the studio, for there to be a comfort level, because of what I wanted to say."

Jackson tribute show rescheduled |

 A TRIBUTE concert to Michael Jackson has been postponed after several top artists pulled out.
Jackson's brother Jermaine, who organised the show, said that they had been unable to perform at the event.
The show was due to take place in Vienna at the at the Schoenbrunn castle at the end of this month but will now be held in London in June 2010.
Jermaine said: "Numerous stars were just not able to change their schedules to make a live appearance at the Vienna event possible."
Representatives for Mary J Blige, Chris Brown and Natalie Cole said none of them would be at the concert, as previously announced. |

Police took earrings and three rings from the singer after the alleged assault, which took place hours before the Grammy Awards ceremony in February.
The items are worth over $1.4m (£1m) and were on loan from a shop that has now asked the Umbrella star to return them as soon as possible.
Rihanna's lawyer Donald Etra, said the detective overseeing the case did not object to the return of the items.
She told the BBC: "Apparently, initially, the police felt that it would be needed as evidence. Now the belief is that photographs would be more than sufficient.

The 19-year-old singer appeared before a Los Angeles Superior Commissioner but did not enter a plea after the felonies were announced yesterday.
Chris - who wore a three-piece grey suit to the hearing - had his arraignment delayed until April 6 and was made the subject of a protective order.
The commissioner said: "Mr. Brown, you are not to annoy, harass, molest, threaten or use force or violence against anyone."
Chris signed a document saying he understood his lawyer Mark Geragos would appear on his behalf at the next hearing.
If convicted, the singer faces a maximum of four years in prison. |
