The 35-year-old singer – who quit the pop group in 1995 - spent five hours in a Los Angeles studio on Tuesday (26.01.10) singing and recording songs with his old bandmates and was then spotted hugging each of them as he left.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "All the signs are looking good. It's great news for the fans. They're using this time in Los Angeles to start working together as a band again.
"They were delighted with Tuesday's session and were congratulating each other as they left. They're using this time together to crack on with reunion songs."

The 'Hero’ singer was performing to a packed out audience at the Borgata Hotel and Casino, in Atlantic City, when her stagehands brought out a chaise longue on which she laid down on. She was then pampered while enjoying a glass of champagne.
Laying back on her on stage throne, she playfully asked: "Do they expect me to stand up for the whole show? They call me a diva... because I am."
During her stay at the hotel, Mariah had a huge rider and needed ten carts to carry all her luggage. |

Mariah Carey hired out a recreation center in Aspen last Monday for 35 underprivileged children.
The singer hired magicians, storytellers and jugglers to entertain the kids who came along to play on the ice skating rink, swim in the pool and use the climbing wall.
The couple also turned up at the center in a reindeer powered sleigh with Santa and had their photo taken with the kids.

A host of the biggest music stars in the world are keen to acknowledge the late 'Billie Jean' singer's contribution to pop by recording versions of his tracks for a new charity album.
Robbie Williams, Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross have also been linked to the LP, as has British schoolboy Shaheen Jafargholi - who was hand-picked to appear at last month's memorial concert for Michael, who died of a suspected cardiac arrest in June.
A source said: "The idea came from the memorial concert. Many fans asked if cover versions from it would be released, and it seemed a wonderful idea.

The 'Baby Love' singer - who was appointed guardian of the late star's three children in the event of his mother Katherine's death - decided not to attend yesterday's (07.07.09) tribute at Los Angeles' Staples Center, instead sending a letter which was read out by Smokey Robinson, much to the surprise of Michael's family.
A source said: "When Smokey read out Diana's letter, there were a lot of people's heads turning and shrugging in those front rows."
In her statement, Diana insisted it just felt "right" to not attend. |

 MARIAH CAREY has said the sight of Michael Jackson's coffin almost caused her to break down during her memorial performance.
The diva fought back tears as she sang a rendition of the Jackson 5's ballad "I'll Be There." with friend and fellow singer Trey Lorenz.
But her powerful voice could barely be heard as she sang, and she had to rely on Lorenz to help her finish the song, her first worldwide number one in 1992.

The singer is appearing on UK TV talent show 'The X Factor’ on Saturday night (08.11.08) so organisers have chartered the special plane to get her to the 20th annual ceremony in Monaco which takes place on Sunday (09.11.08).
Mariah will be joined by husband Nick Cannon on the journey which will see them lavishly treated.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: 'It’ll be like a second honeymoon on board the jet for them. There’ll be no expense spared for Mariah - lilies, mini-burgers, sparkling water and bundles of her favourite Hello Kitty toys as a present.
